How to Make Brown Sugar Cold Brew Coffee

Making cold brew coffee takes a bit of prep work and patience since the coffee needs some time to brew and chill in the refrigerator. Luckily, the final results are definitely worth the wait!

Make the Cold Brew Coffee

  • Combine Coffee and Water: In a large jar or pitcher, add the coarsely ground coffee beans. Then pour in 4 cups of cold water. Ensure all the coffee grounds are saturated.
  • Stir & Steep: Give the mixture a good stir, then cover the jar or pitcher. Place in the refrigerator for 12–24 hours. The longer the coffee steeps, the stronger the coffee will be.
  • Strain the Coffee: After steeping, strain the coffee through a fine-mesh seive lined with a coffee filter or cheesecloth to remove the coffee grounds. Transfer the strained cold brew into a clean jar or pitcher.

Make the Brown Sugar, Maple Syrup

  • Combine Brown Sugar and Water: In a small saucepan, combine the brown sugar and 1/2 cup of water.
  • Heat and Dissolve: Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the sugar is completely dissolved. Add the maple syrup and vanilla extract and stir until combined.
  • Cool: Remove from the saucepan from the heat and let the syrup cool to room temperature.

Assemble the Brown Sugar Cold Brew

  • Fill Glass: Fill a clean tall glass with ice cubes.
  • Add Syrup: Pour in 2-3 tablespoons of the brown sugar maple syrup. Adjust the amount to your preferred sweetness level.
  • Add Coffee: Pour the cold brew coffee over the ice. Leave room in the glass to add milk or cream if using.
  • Add Milk or Cream: Add a splash of milk or cream to give the coffee a creamier texture. For a frothed topped, pour 2-3 tablespoons of milk or cream in a small cup. Use a handheld frother wand to froth. Then pour over the top of the coffee.
