Baked brie with red Pepper jelly is an appetizer that can be enjoyed all year long. It pairs wonderfully with winter recipes during the holiday season, as well as lighter recipes during the spring and summer seasons. Once cooked, the melted cheese is mild in flavor and the hot pepper jelly offers a nice hint of heat and sweetness. It’s one of the easiest appetizers to whip up for guests in under 20 minutes to enjoy while the main meal is still in the making.
Great appetizers require minimal effort and are incredibly delicious. This recipe checks both of those boxes, with its creamy brie cheese wonderfully melding with your favorite pepper jelly for the perfect appetizer.
Equipment Needed
Only a few items are needed for this appetizer.
- Oven-Safe Dish: The baked brie with red pepper jelly appetizer can be baked in several different types of oven-safe dishes. I like to use a mini cast iron skillet. It can also be baked on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Serveware: A serving board, serving platter or large shallow bowl is optimal to place the appetizer on along with any crackers and bread for a nice presentation. Add a small cheese knife for guests to easily serve themselves.
Ingredients Needed
Gather these simple ingredients:
- Brie Cheese Wheel: A brie wheel can easily be found at your local grocery store with the other specialty cheeses. My go-to brie wheel is made by President.
- Red Pepper Jelly: Pick up your favorite jar of pepper jelly. I enjoy the pepper jelly made by Tabasco, but there are many pepper jellies on the market today for you to choose from.
- Cooking Spray
Baking Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F. Lightly coat the baking dish with cooking spray. Place brie wheel on the prepped baking dish.
- Score a crisscross pattern about 1/2 inch deep into the brie. Top the brie cheese with a few spoonfuls of red pepper jelly.
- Bake for approximate 15 minutes, until the cheese is melted and gooey.
- Carefully transfer the baked brie to a serving dish. Serve immediately with crackers or toasted baguette slices.
Baking Tips & Tricks
- Safety First: If you baked the brie cheese in a cast iron skillet like I did, allow the skillet to cool for a few minutes or wrap a tea towel around the edges, so guest do not burn themselves while enjoying the dish.
- Brie Cheese Rind: The rind is edible and does not need to be cut off prior to baking. The rind not only adds additional texture to the final dish, but it also offers support by holding everything together and preventing all the cheese from oozing out into a puddle.
Recipe Variations
After making this recipe for the first time, you may be asking what other flavors and textures will pair well with baked brie. Luckily for us, there are so many flavors to choose from. Today we used a red pepper jelly as a topping, but many other jam and jelly flavors will work just as well. Since brie cheese has a creamy, mild flavor, it pairs wonderfully with a variety of flavors. Top off brie cheese with fig jam, apricot jam or your favorite fruit jelly. You can even bake the brie with fresh fruit or apple slices on top of the jam.
What to Serve with Baked Brie
Serve baked brie with thick crackers, pita chips, or slices of toasted baguette for guests to scoop into the cheese. Add a small cheese knife or two to the serving dish, so guests also have the option to smear the gooey cheese onto their crackers or bread instead of dipping directly into the cheese.
How to Store Baked Brie
If you happen to have any leftovers, store in an airtight container in the refrigerator. It will last for a few more days. To reheat, place the cheese onto an oven-safe dish or baking sheet and heat in the oven until the cheese is melty again.
