It’s that time of year again, this holiday season, easily make the perfect appetizer for guests to enjoy before the main course. The bacon brie crescent wreath is a celebration of great flavors with crispy bacon, gooey baked brie and sweet pepper jelly enveloped in a flaky crust and topped with a homemade honey mustard glaze. Let’s dig in!
Jump to RecipeOne thing I’ve noticed at family holiday gatherings is that the appetizers are just as important as the main entrée. As guests arrive, they usually head straight to the kitchen to see what good things they can nibble on until the main meal is ready. Whether you are hosting a family get together or need to bring a side dish to a pot lock, you can’t go wrong with this easy appetizer and wonderful dish.
Equipment Needed:
- Large pan or skillet: A large pan will be needed to cook the bacon in.
- Sharp knife & cutting board: A chef knife will be needed to cut the bacon, brie cheese and baked crescent wreath when done baking. A pizza cutter can also be used to cut the crescent wreath.
- Round pizza pan or large baking sheet: The crescent wreath will be placed on the pizza pan and then baked in the oven.
- Silicone brush: A silicone brush will be needed to brush the honey mustard glaze onto the baked crescent wreath.
Bacon & Brie Crescent Wreath Ingredients:
Wreath Ingredients:
- Crescent roll dough: Crescent dough is readily found in the grocery store’s refrigerated area. The dough is perforated to easily tear into triangles and roll into crescents.
- Crispy bacon: Most packs of bacon come with 1 pound of bacon. This is more than you will need for the crescent wreath. I used the remaining bacon and brie cheese slices to place in the middle of the crescent wreath.
- Brie cheese: Brie cheese is a soft-ripened cheese that has a rich, buttery flavor and a runny, creamy texture when melted. Making it the perfect melty cheese for this recipe.
- Pepper jelly: I’ve recently tried pepper jelly for the first time and just love the sweet kick it brings to recipes. The pepper jelly can easily be replaced with fig jam, any sweet jam or cranberry sauce.
- Fresh rosemary or thyme: Add a little greenery and an earthy aroma to the crescent wreath with fresh rosemary or thyme.
Glaze Ingredients:
- Honey
- Whole-grain mustard: Whole-ground or stone-ground mustard is ground just enough to form a paste. The mustard seeds are still visible, creating a thick, coarse texture.
How to Make the Bacon & Brie Wreath:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Cook the bacon over medium heat and set it aside to cool off and crisp up.
- Spray the pizza pan with cooking spray to ensure the dough does not stick to the pan. Unroll the crescent dough and separate the dough triangles. Place the triangles on the pizza pan one at a time, slightly overlapping the triangles to create the shape of a wreath.
- Place the cooked bacon on the dough, followed by slices of brie cheese, then spoon the pepper jelly on top of the brie cheese.
- Gently fold the ends of the triangles of the crescent rolls over the fillings and tuck them underneath to secure the wreath’s shape.
- Place the crescent wreath into the center of the preheated oven and bake for around 20-25 minutes until the crescent dough turns a wonderful golden hue.
- While the crescent wreath is in the oven, mix together the honey and whole-grain mustard in a small bowl.
- Once the wreath is out of the oven and still warm, brush the glaze over the top. The sweet and tangy notes of the glaze will complement the rich, savory flavors perfectly. Sprinkle a few fresh herbs over the top and tuck some herbs around the outer edges of the wreath to add more color to the final product.
- Transfer the crescent wreath to a serving platter. Add any reaming bacon and brie pieces to the center of the wreath with a small fork. Slice the crescent wreath into even portions. The crescent wreath is ready to serve!
How to Serve the Crescent Wreath:
Now that the hard work is done, even though this easy recipe was anything but, it’s time to share this lovely appetizer recipe with the party guests before the holiday meal. Place the bacon and brie cheese crescent wreath on a beautiful elevated serving platter, so guests can easily grab a helping.
Pair the crescent wreath with other finger foods and savory appetizers such as festive cheese balls, an olive tapenade, or bacon-wrapped dates or a seasonal salad.
How to Store Leftovers:
Any leftovers can be placed in an airtight container or wrapped in plastic wrap and stored in the refrigerator for a few days. The best way to warm up the crescent wreath slices is to place in the microwave and heat for about 30 seconds.
